Founded in 1815, the Vienna University of Technology is renowned for its long tradition. It finds high international and domestic recognition in teaching as well as in research and as partner of innovation oriented enterprises. Two institutes will be involved within ToMax:

The Institute of Materials Science and Technology (IMST, Prof. Stampfl) is responsible for the coordination of the project, materials testing and development of DLP-based systems. The institute currently has 60 employees, and is involved in research projects covering the full range of engineering materials, from metals over polymers and composites to ceramic materials.

The Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry (IAS, Prof. Liska) will develop photopolymerizable resins for lithography-based AMT. IAS has currently 100 employees.


In-Vision Digital Imaging GmbH

Invision is a competence partner and solution provider for design and manufacturing of optical high-end engines and lens assemblies serving the entire optical track from light source to projection and imaging optics.

The company offers sophisticated systems design, optical and mechanical system assembly technologies, and development of special optical manufacturing processes, express prototyping, coating technologies, testing and quality management.


Lithoz GmbH

Lithoz GmbH, based in Vienna, specializes in the development and production of ceramic materials and additive manufacturing systems for the simple and cost-effective production of high- performance ceramic prototypes, small scale series and complex parts.

Based on long-term research at the Vienna University of Technology, Lithoz developed the patented LCM(Lithography-based Ceramic Manufacturing)-process. This technology is capable of structuring a broad range of photopolymers, including ceramic filled resins and bio-photopolymers.

Lithoz covers the whole process chain from the material development over the material processing to the development of the hard- and software, making them to a strong partner for R&D projects.


Deskartes OY

Deskartes Oy is specialized in developing 3D CAD systems and data processing software for industrial design and 3D printing applications. DeskArtes product portfolio contains freeform surface modeling system software (Design Expert), data healing software for 3D printing (3Data Expert) as well as 3D model viewing tools (View Expert). All software development is done in-house.

DeskArtes was founded 1991 and it is located in Helsinki, Finland. DeskArtes is one of the major AM/3D Printing software vendors worldwide. DeskArtes has 5 employees and over 30 distributors around the globe. DeskArtes co-operates with the main 3D printer manufacturers for development and sales of specialized software for 3D data manipulation (fixing, coloring and print preparation).


Cycleco SAS

Cycleco is a French SME specialized in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). It was founded in 2009 by Jérôme Payet and is located in Ambérieu en Bugey, near Lyon. Cycleco is involved in the development and the dissemination of Life Cycle Impacts Assessment (LCIA) methods developed under the auspices of the United Nations by the UNEP-SETAC Life Cycle Initiative.

 The services provided by Cycleco include:

– Life Cycle Assessment studies and reviews (ISO 14040-44, ILCD Handbook);

– Life Cycle Assessment training and courses for enterprises and universities;

– Product Category Rules development (ISO 14025);

– Software programming for environmental evaluations;

– Research and development of Life Cycle Impacts Assessment methods (USEtoxTM, IMPACT 2002 …).


Universidad Politécnica de Madrid

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is the oldest and largest Spanish technical university, with more than 4.000 faculty members, around 38.000 undergraduate students and 6.000 postgraduates in 21 Schools of study.

The UPM researchers from the Mechanical Engineering Department – Product Development Laboratory, taking part in the “ToMax” project, have expertise in different areas of Mechanical Engineering, including advanced design and manufacturing technologies, systematic product development, development of biomedical devices, machine maintenance and security assessment, materials selection synthesis, characterization, modeling and simulation, or tribology and contact phenomena. In the last 10 years the group of researchers has leaded around 20 R&D projects, with a global public funding of more than 5 M€, and carried out more than 50 projects or technical studies for several private industrial partners.

International Syalons Ltd

International Syalons, based in the North East of England, is the UK’s leading producer of silicon nitride based advanced ceramics. In addition, they manufacture alumina, zirconia and silicon carbide ceramics. The company was established as a private limited liability company (Ltd) in 1994 and has 36 employees.

International Syalons were the first company to patent and market sialon ceramics – the world‘s first advanced ceramic alloys – and have over 40 years’ experience in the development of silicon nitride based ceramics. These advanced ceramics are used in a wide range of industries from oil and gas, chemical, molten metal handling and aerospace.
